Presenter Bio: Kevin Donly is currently a Professor, Chair and Postdoctoral Program Director in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Previous positions include Professor and Associate Director of the Center for Clinical Studies at the University of Iowa, Associate Professor, Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston and Associate Professor, The University of Texas Medical School. He received his D.D.S. in 1984, Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry in 1986, and M.S. in 1986 from the University of Iowa.



Course Title: Practical Management of Caries: Recognize, Rejuvenate and Repair

Presenter: Dr. Hien Ngo

Course Description: Today, our understanding of the cause and progress of caries has changed to the extent that we have entirely new ways of managing the caries as a disease. In order to be effective, it requires an in depth knowledge of prevention, remineralization and adhesion. This approach requires that you first control caries as a disease, then repair the damage in the least invasive way. A total surgical approach is no longer needed as we are now able to remineralize and heal parts of a carious lesion. This lecture will give you an integrated understanding of the concepts, clinical techniques and the equipment and materials you need to promote a successful clinical practice.

Presenter Bio: Hien Ngo qualified in dentistry at the University of Adelaide in 1982 and completed a MDS in fixed prosthodontics in 1990. He was appointed Principal Consultant to the Colgate Australian Clinical Dental Research Centre, Adelaide University in 1998 and Research Director of the Centre since 1999. At present, his main focus in research revolves around the interactions between the glass-ionomers and the dental tissues as well as the application of various microscopy and microanalysis techniques in cariology research. He has lectured extensively in Australia and internationally on these topics as well as the introduction and application of the Minimal Intervention concept.

Presenter Bio: Dr. Wynn Okuda is Past-President (2002 – 2003) and accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). Dr. Okuda is an accomplished author and international lecturer on the topic of cosmetic dentistry, is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantology and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. He is also on the Advisory Board of Best Dentists in America and the Esthetic Dentistry Expert to the National Dental Expert Advisory Board of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD). For ten years, Dr. Okuda has been the editor of numerous award-winning professional dental publications, including the Journal of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He practices cosmetic, implant and restorative dentistry at the Dental Day Spa – DDS in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Presenter Bio: Dr. Steinberg has been in private practice since 1982. He was an instructor at the University of Illinois, department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Attending Dentist at the University of Illinois Hospital from 1982-1987. He has also been the Director of the Ark dental clinics in Chicago, Illinois from 1987-1993 and 1997-2000. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Ark. It was at the Ark, serving underprivileged and high risk caries patients that his interest in caries treatment options began. He is a Clinical Consultant for the University of Illinois College of Dentistry Continuing Education Online course on Dental Caries.

Course Description: This course will define the categories of restorative materials and list the contents of each. We will discuss the concept of hydrophilicity. Presenter Bio: Joel H. Berg, DDS, MS, is Professor and Lloyd and Kay Chapman Chair for Oral Health of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. He is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist, and is the President of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation. Dr. Berg previously held positions as Vice President of Clinical Affairs at Philips Oral Healthcare from 2000-2003, Head of the Scientific Department for ESPE Dental AG from 1998-2000, and Director of the Postgraduate/Residency Program in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Texas, Houston from 1989 through 1995, where he conducted numerous clinical trials evaluating restorative materials. He is the author of a multitude of manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters regarding a variety of subjects, including restorative materials for children and other work related to biomaterials. His current research interests include the development of dental caries prevention programs using risk assessment models and early childhood oral health.

Presenter Bio: Dr. Robert A. Lowe graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University School of Dentistry in 1982 and was a Clinical Professor in Restorative Dentistry until its closure in 1993. Since January of 2000, Dr. Lowe has maintained a private pracice in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dr. Lowe lectures internationally and publishes in well-known dental journals on esthetic and restorative dentistry.
